When Rev. Benjamin Weir, one of the high profile American hostages held by Lebanese militias, was released in early 1986 he requested a meeting with American Muslims. At an Episcopal Church he greeted Imam Chirri and criticized U.S. financing of Israel and its military involvement in Lebanon.
